A Stolen Boat Case

A young man's boat was stolen and found burned in Monroe, Michigan. His insurance company's assertion that he had done this himself seemed absurd. The boat was paid for, it ran and the young man could have sold it for more than he had paid. I presented the case, brought forth testimony and the jury awarded my client the boat's full value — along with payment of attorney's fees.

A Case With Three Keys

An engineering student had his Mazda stolen from a mall. The insurance company argued that the vehicle had an anti-theft system and could not have been stolen unless the thief had the key. In response, I had a legal assistant present the VIN number of the car to multiple Mazda dealers. She was able to get three ignition keys, demonstrating that a thief could have done the same. My client was awarded a $25,000 judgment and the insurance company was ordered to pay all of my attorney fees.

Fires of Unknown Origin

In two distinct cases, I obtained compensation for women whose cars burned due to electrical malfunction, foul play or some other factor. In one, the insurance company's allegation was that my Mexican-American client and her sister drove the car to a Detroit casino together to set it on fire.

In another, my client returned from a nail salon, parked her car and it burned — but the insurance company investigator testified that the presence of a spider web in the car showed the woman had lied about her activities.

In both cases, I was able to present convincing testimony and demonstrate to the jury that my clients were not involved — earning them substantial compensation.

A Shaky Argument Taken Apart

Another client's pickup truck was stolen in Washtenaw County. The thieves stole a bed hitch but reattached the bolts that had held it in place. This was the essence of the insurance company's argument supporting the claim denial: only the owner would reattach bolts.

I convinced the jury of my client's innocence and the inadequacy of such a petty reason for denying the claim, enabling my client to recover nearly $70,000 for his $25,000 truck, including the interest that may apply to an insurance bad faith claim.
